Cast members Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson pose at the premiere of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2″ in Los Angeles, California November 16, 2015. The Good Dinosaur is the second Pixar film to not reach the No. 1 spot in its opening weekend (Inside Out was hindered earlier this year by Jurassic World’s domination at the box office), but it is also worth noting it is also only the second Pixar film to be released over Thanksgiving since Toy Story 2in 1999.

Coming in second place was “The Good Dinosaur”, Walt Disney Co.’s new Pixar offering. The finale of the young adult movie series led ticket sales for a second weekend, beating out newcomers “The Good Dinosaur” and “Creed”. But while it didn’t manage a high opening by Pixar standards, it should remain in the top 10 for quite a few weeks since it’s one of the few real family-friendly films in theaters.

“The Peanuts Movie” wasn’t completely overshadowed by “The Good Dinosaur”. They earned $12.8 million and $9.7 million, respectively, over the holiday weekend. The film grossed only $2.3 million Friday-Sunday, and $3.4 million including Wednesday and Thursday. It is said to have cost $175 million to $200 million to make. That was an expected drop despite the weekend considering the lukewarm critical and audience reception.

“Philadelphia is on fire and it has been since opening day”, Jeff Goldstein, a distribution executive vice president at Warner Bros., the studio that is distributing the film, told Variety. Michael B. Jordan co-stars with Stallone as Apollo’s son, Adonis. The CGI-animated adaptation of Charles Schultz’s characters felt the burn of The Good Dinosaur but is doing fine; it has now grossed $116.8 million domestically and $126.1 million worldwide. Starring Daniel Radcliffe of “Harry Potter” fame and James McAvoy, the movie finished significantly lower than projected, with only $3.4 million.

In limited release, Focus Features debuted The Danish Girl on four screens to finish with $185k, while the Janis Joplin documentary Janis: Little Girl Blue opened on two screens and made $24k. Yet, it has so far made $198.3 million in North America. The biographical film about the gender transition of artist Lili Elbe (Eddie Redmayne) has found itself in conversation about potential awards recognition. The Tom McCarthy-directed drama about the Boston Globe’s 2003 Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation of sexual abuse by priests is in the top 10 for a second weekend in a row, this time at No. 8. “Creed” has been receiving rave reviews, and evne some Oscar buzz for Stallone; as a result, it had the highest opening weekend of any “Rocky” film to date.
