The movie did not do so well and only earned a net total of $101 million, according to THR.

The stunning performances by Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson bring the movie to life. A spokesman noted that Part 2 collected an additional US$146 million, a hefty total, from 87 global markets.
While part one of the Mockingjay films focused on District 13’s preparation for the rebellion and cementing Katniss as the symbol of hope for all of Panem, this time around Katniss and her band of rebels were ready to fight.
The franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence, kicked off with a bang in March 2012 with a massive 152.5 million dollar (£100.6 million) weekend – one of the highest openings of all time.
In the third spot is the Taiwanese romance Our Times, which earned $12 million followed by the South Korean thriller Inside Men, which took $10.2 million.
Two debuts made the top five list: “The Night Before”, at $10.1 million and “Secret In Their Eyes” at $6.6 million. Same can’t be said for Nicole Kidman who has had worse (Before I Go To Sleep opened to $1.8 million a year ago).
The final instalment of the Hunger Games; Mockingjay Part 2 is finally here.
In the end, Francis Lawrence chose instead to rework the “Mockingjay Part 2″ script so that a critical exchange near the film’s conclusion in which Heavensbee offers parting wisdom to Katniss is now conveyed in the form of a letter read by Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch Abernathy. The “Games” movies have set box office records in the past.
Being the first weekend, the movie might just shift gears and sore high. While unlikely to be considered a flop (it is getting decent enough reviews, and the worldwide gross for the franchise amounts in the billions), it may have been more disappointing than expected.
Lionsgate opted to split Suzanne Collins’ final book into two films, akin to the case of “Harry Potter” and “Twilight”.
The critics were true to their opinions about the movie as it was for the books. “Catching Fire”, the second film in the franchise, one-upped that with a $158.1 million debut in November 2013.

Considering Part 1 was a dreary slow burner, Part 2 is a lot more exciting, although does start out quite slowly itself. However, it’s all but inevitable that the new “Star Wars” film will topple “Mockingjay” in mid-December if it can hang on that long.
