In such situations, “The Hunger Games”, the best-selling novel from Suzanne Collins and its two follow-up books turned out to be the flawless source material for movies that eventually became office phenomenon.

“The Night Before”, a Seth Rogen comedy released by Sony/Columbia, grossed $3.6million and took the No. 3 spot. It has outgrossed its predecessor “Skyfall” in the People’s Republic, earning $77.8 million so far compared to the $59.2 million that film made during its entire Chinese run.
“There was the one when we wrapped the film in Berlin, when everyone was there and I said goodbye to everyone in the movie”. It hit theaters on November 20.
If projections hold, “Mockingjay” will end up with the most modest performance of the “Hunger Games” series. Those numbers are by no means small-if it were any other film they would be considered an enormous success- but The Hollywood Reporter notes that Mockingjay-Part 2, “came in behind expectations even on a global basis”.
LionsGate’s “The Hunger Games” films tapped into the burgeoning young adult market and have grossed more than $2.3 billion worldwide with the tale of teens forced to compete in annual televised death matches. “It’s nice to be able say we are one of only 34 films to have ever had an opening weekend over $100 million”.
“We try hard not to glorify any of the killing or glorify any of the battles, but just show the gravity and the dangers and the sacrifice that come from war”, the actress said. “This is a little under what we hoped for”, STX distribution head Kevin Grayson told TheWrap, “but we connected with our target of mature women and we think it will play well over the holiday”. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara enter what is a forbidden relationship to 1950s society but a growing and cherished one between the two (***½ out of four; rated R; opens Friday in NY and Los Angeles, expands to additional cities through Christmas).
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” is now showing in theaters.
Social media activity is also off the charts, according to entertainment news website Moviepilot Inc.
