“As soon as we placed the camera inside, we saw some metallic material on our screen”.
Surgeon Jitendra Malhotra said Singh suffered from a psychological disorder where he had an urge to swallow down knives. Talking to newspersons here on Friday, Dr Jatinder Malhotra of a private hospital here said a 42-year-old head constable was admitted in the hospital with abdominal pain and weakness.
The good news is, the man survived eating and stomaching 40 knives, and also made it through the surgery.
Singh said he developed the habit of swallowing knives while recuperating from a road accident.
The surgery lasted five hours and the man, whose life is no longer in danger, is due to be released from the hospital in the next few days.
He said: “I could not walk properly after that. I had never seen anything like it”.
“When we began the diagnosis, we found the cause of the pain puzzling. It pained a little”. A CT scan showed multiple knives inside the stomach.
