Barely a month after it was renewed for Season 4, TNT’s The Last Ship now has also been commissioned for a fifth adventure, it was announced on Thursday – days before the action-drama’s Season 3 finale airs. The next two seasons will run for 10 episodes each, with Season 5 set for 2018. Thoughts on the series’ most recent season? It remains to be seen whether the two seasons will be filled back-to-back, though it seems highly likely that TNT will bundle filming for Seasons 4 and 5 together to save on production costs.
Now in its third season, The Last Ship is averaging 7.1 million total viewers across the network’s multi-platform viewing methods and is pulling in an average of 2.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo in the overnight numbers. In addition to The Last Ship, other TNT series representing the network’s old brand include The Librarians and Major Crimes.
The popular series stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin, Bridget Regan, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, Bren Foster, and Kevin Michael Martin.
The series “chronicles the aftermath of a global catastrophe that almost decimates the world’s population”, a synopsis said.

This move comes after season 3, despite being down by around 30% in the 18-49 demo from season 2 (at least in live+same day viewership), has remained steady for much of the past several weeks. Co-creators Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also serve as executive producers, along with director Paul Holahan.
