‘The Late Show’ is looking a lot more like ‘The Colbert Report’
No, problem, said Colbert, who immediately introduced a new character, Stephen Colbert, identical cousin to “Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert. “Which is surprising because I never considered that guy much of an intellectual”, Colbert told his audience, before announcing the death of “Stephen Colbert” of The Colbert Report. Stephen Colbert is no longer allowed to play Stephen Colbert. But he wasn’t allowed to do that, according to Viacom corporate lawyers. And when the comedian took over The Late Show for David Letterman, many of us mourned the loss of “Stephen Colbert”. Colbert asked before showing a clip of Bill Clinton saying during Tuesday’s Democratic National Convention, “Your only option is to create a cartoon”. And one night only is all we are going to see of that man. Tonight’s topic was “The Lesser of Two Evils”, in which the host used his classic format to examine the historically low approval ratings of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The banned Colbert went to Dartmouth, the cousin Colbert only applied there. “Hillary’s critics see her as untrustworthy, selfish and too willing to bend the rules”, Colbert said, while “And that’s just Bernie” appeared on the screen.
We did say “appeared to acquiesce”, right?
