The Leica Sofort is your modern-day instant film camera
Leica, the camera brand famed for it’s high-end rangerfinder and medium format cameras, has launched an instant camera. There’s a mode dial, allowing you to switch between several shooting types, including Macro, Action & Sport, Self-Timer, Double Exposure and Selfie. The camera will come in three colors: white, orange, or mint green, which is nearly, but not quite, the color of money. The Sofort lens’ narrow f/12.7 aperture should also help keep things in focus.

An instant camera needs film, and Leica are announcing both color and monochrome film options, so for those who like to shoot black and white, they can pretend to be just like Henri Cartier-Bresson with the Sofort.
The Leica Sofort, which will hit stores for $299 in November, uses Fujifilm’s Instax film to produce prints immediately after you snap the shutter.
In true Leica style, the camera takes advantage of available light for as long as possible when shooting in auto mode, without triggering the built-in flash – resulting in pictures with a more natural and authentic look. Thankfully, the battery does not follow the vintage inspiration – it is rechargeable, rated at 100 shots. Designed specifically for the size of the Instax film, albums, postcards and photo presenters are also slated to be part of the product line.

While there is no word yet on a list price, Leica says the camera and film packs will be available beginning in November.
