Two track and field athletes from New Zealand and the US have put on an inspiring display of Olympic spirit at Rio’s latest track event. Abbey also stated, “I’ve never met this girl before, and isn’t that just so incredible, such an fantastic woman”. “Such an unbelievable woman”, Hamblin said in a later interview.
“When I look back on Rio 2016, I’m not going to remember where I finished, I’m not going to remember my time. but I’ll always remember that moment”, she said. After doing so, D’Agostino’s right knee gave out.
Both Hamblin and D’Agostino will be allowed to enter the final race because they were affected by a trip. An MRI administered Tuesday revealed a complete tear of her right ACL, a meniscus tear, and a strained MCL. Only when she saw the American could carry on by herself, did Hamblin run ahead to make up lost ground. “When someone asks me what happened in Rio in 20 years’ time, that’s going to be my story”. Moments after the two athletes had started running again, D’Agostino began faltering, her right leg injured as a result of the fall. But instead of running to win, Abbey helped Nikki get back on her feet as well.
D’Agostino didn’t waste a second jumping to her feet so she could help Hamblin up to finish the race side by side. Like, I never met this girl before. Like I never met this girl before. Now isn’t this the most handsome thing that happened this year in Rio Olympics?
However, D’Agostino will not compete as she sustained serious knee injuries in the fall.
“By far the best part of my Olympics experience has been the community it creates, what the Games symbolizes”, D’Agostino said. That girl shaking my shoulder, (saying) “come on, get up'”.

Olympic officials also decided that both runners, and Austria’s Jennifer Wenth, who was also affected by the collision, would have places in Friday’s final.
