The most memorable moments from the Cleveland and Philly conventions
They are live events where the most handsome people in our society – the network anchors and TV reporters – parade before us.

Mr Trump supporters say Mrs Clinton deserves to be prosecuted for her handling of USA foreign policy as President Barack Obama’s first-term secretary of state and for her use of a private email server while in that office. “What the Clinton campaign has to do is not make him interesting but make him threatening”.
Retired Marine Corps four-star General John Allen, who endorsed Clinton Thursday and slammed Trump for his promise to compel the United States military to engage in war crimes, also came under Trump’s angry gaze. Maybe it’s: We don’t need to like them.
It wasn’t a poorly constructed speech, nor was the delivery awful – they both were just relentlessly mediocre.
She told supporters in a West Philadelphia arena the coming election is the most important one in her lifetime.
Despite a slew of controversies and humiliating revelations over her leaked emails, Hillary showed resolve to bounce back and take the steering wheel of the Great American narrative. The convention marked Wasserman Schultz’s final four days as Democratic National Committee chairwoman. Powerful speeches in the beginning and then some compelling life stories and then Hillary’s speech.
On Saturday, the GOP nominee replied to the parents of a fallen Muslim-American soldier whose son perished in Iraq.
“You have sacrificed nothing – and no one”.
Trump notably didn’t respond to chants of “lock her up” during his nomination speech at the Republican National Convention last week, causing onlookers to suggest he could be reining in his rough knee-jerk attacks on opponents.
At a rally in Pittsburgh, she was introduced by Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner, technology investor and television personality who recently endorsed her. Her first-grade teacher saw she had nothing to eat at lunch and brought extra food to share the entire year.
While Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, attempted to sell their positive economic message, much of their strategy centers on undermining Trump, particularly the business record that makes up the core of his argument to voters. “It was just hard to go to sleep”. A biographical film of Clinton, narrated by Morgan Freeman, had shown a picture of her mother as a child – she was a tiny thing – and you could imagine this young child, all alone and frightened, having to walk out at night and get food. “So enough with the bigotry and the bombast”. Speaker after speaker, culminating with Hillary Clinton herself, both decried Trump’s bigotry and extolled the advances towards equality among non-straight-white-males that the Democrats have championed and will continue to champion. Trump said he’d fix it all and keep the people safe.
Part of that effort involves focusing on the threat Democrats say Donald Trump would pose to the country as president. Mr. Trump came out of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland tied or ahead of Ms. Clinton in most polls, and even assuming she sees an uptick in support after the Democrats’ convention in Philadelphia, this race is expected to remain close. He loses his cool at the slightest provocation – when he’s gotten a tough question from a reporter, when he’s challenged in a debate, when he sees a protester at a rally. We’re not. Don’t let anyone tell you we don’t have what it takes.
“You know it’s interesting”, Trump continued. Donald Trump denounced her convention speech as “full of lies” and said he is starting to agree with those calling for Clinton to be locked up.
“Even in a time when people have anxiety, I don’t think what they want is leaders who stoke the pessimism”, he told CNN.
A few moments later, she was finished and the roars began.

And she didn’t seem to mind that one bit.
