While the buzz around the iPhone 8 is that Apple will switch to OLED after its long standing relationship with LCD displays, news coming from DigiTimes states that it will be quite the opposite for the next Apple Watch. Applep introduced a new feature called scribble allows users to write words on the display and Apple Watch will convert the handwriting to text. The new displays will be mass produced for the first time ever, since no other manufacturer has jumped on to the technology yet.
In 2014, Apple had acquired LuxVue Technology, a company that is specialized in the Micro-LED displays. There is also new report that claims that Apple is planning to rope in the third company the third company to manufacturer the Oled displays for their next year’s iPhone.
Micro-LED displays, which can range from 1-micron to 100-micron, do not necessitate the same backlighting requirements as traditional LCD displays.
Furthermore, the company is said to be working on a new display for iPhones. Reports suggest that the second-generation Apple smartwatch, dubbed as Apple Watch 2, could be launched sometime in late 2017 and will have several improved features. As for what it means for the Apple Watch 2, Micro LEDs could represent a much-needed change to improve battery and set the foundations for a much better device this time.
