The Official Oscars Website Just Made A Really Awkward Mistake
The five-time Oscar nominee played linguistics expert in the Denis Villeneuve science-fiction drama.

Which movie were you hoping to see nominated this year at the Oscars? However, it seems it will face some tough contenders as well. The only real dud is Lion, a Harvey Weinstein special.* I wouldn’t have voted for Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight, Fences, or Hidden Figures, but I do think they’re all solid, three-star flicks with some A-plus performances.
For much of this Oscar season, Amy Adams seemed primed to tie a very specific but notable record. An article on Forbes mentioned in the headline that the incident is the “year’s biggest snub”. And yet she wasn’t even nominated.
ABC Digital accidentally listed Amy Adams and Tom Hanks on the Oscars website among the nominees listed for Best Lead Actress and Best Lead Actor, respectively. Now, the Academy has apologized for their error.
But the legendary director is only one who got snubbed as the Oscars 2017 nominations were announced. ABC Digital quickly corrected the list and apologized, but not before giving momentary false hope to those who thought Adams might have been included after all.
As well as leaving fans confused, many United States media outlets also ended up reporting Amy as an official nominee by mistake.
The Academy usually loves Clint Eastwood, but “Sully” only managed one nomination, for sound editing. Arrival debuted in theaters in November 2016 and made more than $160 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The new screenings will feature some additional footage and behind-the-scenes features only available at the screenings (which will likely be available as bonus features on some of the home-entertainment releases for the film later this year).

Another film I had high hopes for is the bittersweet family drama Captain Fantastic, which, like Florence, came and went early a year ago, well outside the year-end Oscar campaigning season. Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” also received a lone nomination, for cinematography. None of their films appeared on the list of best-picture nominees like Arrival, either.
