In a long overdue move, Instagram has updated its iconic icon.
In adopting a new icon for its main app, Instagram has also made matching icons for its other app offerings, including Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse. You can’t ride the wave of nostalgia forever.
While mobile OSes like Android and iOS have gotten refresher user interfaces over the years, one thing has remained constant: Instagram’s app icon.
Check back for updates.
Don’t worry though – it’s not changed too much, and you’ll find all the usual filters and buttons in the usual place.
The change is purposeful as Instagram is increasingly moving away from simple still imagery in favor of videos.
More than 80 million photos and videos are now shared every day on Instagram.

Launched in 2010, Instagram is among the most popular social media apps, particularly among teens. According to a survey from research firm Piper Jaffray, Instagram is the second most popular social app for teens, trailing closely behind Snapchat. The update is live on the App Store now. Instagram will draw at least $3.2 billion in 2016, a Credit Suisse report estimated.
