The return of Rickon Stark … to Ramsay Bolton

Unfortunately, Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson) was also brought back to Winterfell with the head of his direwolf Shaggydog as identification.

There have been numerous deaths on Game of Thrones over the years but the latest has caught plenty of viewers by surprise, with Rickon Stark’s dire wolf Shaggydog seemingly decapitated by House Umber as a gift to Ramsay Bolton. As we saw on Sunday’s episode, this turned out to not really be the case.

Yes, Rickon Stark – the younger brother of Bran – is back on the Westeros block, which is incredible considering he last appeared in series three of the drama, when he disappeared into the wilderness with his Wildling babysitter Osha. We’ve also seen the direwolves grow significantly season after season.

Well, there are a few possibilities, depending on where Rickon has actually been all this time.

HollywoodLifers, are you glad Rickon’s back on Game of Thrones?

If Osha and Rickon actually made it to the Umbers, that would mean that they’ve been living with them all this time, and it is only just now that the Umbers chose to betray him and hand him over to Ramsay.

Helen Sloan/HBOWhat’s the plan here, Lord Umber? The show has hinted at the Grand Northern Conspiracy before. Later, the woman was flayed alive by Ramsay for promising to help Sansa escape. Rickon is the youngest member of the Stark family. They spent 10 months lying to us about Jon Snow, and although their motives were understandable it does make it sort of hard to believe everything they say now in interviews. In the books, he is the rotund head of House Manderly who pretends to be loyal to the Freys – the house that famously killed Catelyn Stark, Robb Stark, and his new wife Talisa at the Red Wedding – only to reveal later on that he is deceiving everyone and is still loyal to the Starks. He has distinctive rugged features, a Northern accent, and a distinguished air.

But even if the Umbers are not working against Ramsay, there is one angry former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch who could soon be marching on the place he once called home.

This week, our brief visit to the North gave us the return of Rickon Stark and his fearless caregiver Osha to Winterfell.

Ultimately, if the Umbers are actually on Team Bolton, that’s very sad news for Shaggydog.
