The Return of the Romo

He’s got his own challenges, of course, with two interceptions (offset by his two TD passes, not to mention his early-game escape from the wrong end zone using a left-handed pass) and his rust and, oh yeah, Dallas has to play again on Thursday in Arlington against the undefeated Panthers.

With the win, the Cowboys (3-7) are just two games behind the NFC East leaders, the 5-5 NY Giants.

Dallas took a 14-0 lead with 1:08 left in the half on Romo’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Williams.

Respected Cowboys scout man Bryan Broaddus said before the game the defense would benefit from Romo’s return more than anyone else on the team, and it’s hard to argue that fact now.

“[Tony] being back gives everybody that much more juice”, Bryant said. We know we have a very physical offensive line.

Among the most telling numbers in this game were the Dolphins defense giving up 166 rushing yards and the offense converting only 1 of 10 third-down situations. But, McClain made the play by reading the eyes of Ryan Tannehill perfectly and scoring the opening touchdown. They even managed to get far less likable when Greg Hardy came back from suspension and reminded everyone of the league’s image problem. It was his highest yardage total since Week 2, the last Romo game. “That’s why it’s the NFL. You nearly take it as a challenge, and it makes it nearly more enjoyable”.

It was just the kind of precise downfield throw the Cowboys lacked with Romo sidelined, and helped overcome two interceptions on bad decisions with pressure coming.

“I didn’t envision that”, Romo said with a laugh.

The Cowboys (3-7) are 3-0 this season when Romo starts.

“Darren’s a good football player”, coach Jason Garrett said. “He has been for a long time”.

McFadden’s 122 carries for 494 yards over the last five games are the most carries he’s ever had in a five-game span in his career. He has one nine yard catch.

Romo found his rhythm late in the third quarter, leading the Cowboys on an eight-play, 80-yard drive that broke a 14-14 tie. New coverage packages the Cowboys weren’t expecting from Miami (4-6) that included the use of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh as an end. “He’s a competitor. Makes a lot of plays for us”.

“It’s tough to get 3rd-and-six, much less 4th-and-6”, Pouncey said. For all the positives Dan Campbell as the interim head coach seems to be bringing to the team, a team that is suddenly playing with emotion and aggressiveness, the offensive failures have continued to crush the team.

“We want to play like hell and play well against Carolina”, Jones said. “He does a great job”. He’s exciting. Everyone in our locker room believes in him. “We’ll be down for a little bit, but we’ve got to go on to the next one”. They only have 19 sacks on the season through 10 games, and that is a disappointment.

The Cowboys won for the first time since September, beating the Miami Dolphins 24-14. They had 3 different drives with at least 12 plays as they methodically bled the clock and kept the defense off the field and ended up with just under 39 minutes of possession. “Celebration penalties… we can’t allow that to happen”.

“I put this loss on me”, Taylor said.
