The Revenant crowned BAFTA

DiCaprio fans believe that this year’s Academy Awards is the actor’s best chance of winning an Oscar, scheduled to be held on February 28. The actor, a three-time Bafta nominee for “The Aviator”, “The Departed” and “The Wolf of Wall Street”, paid glowing tribute to his mother in his speech. Director Peter Docter says he wasn’t expecting the award.

When asked why there is so much fuss about the iconic door at the 2016 BAFTA Awards, Winslet said, “Do you know what’s lovely?”

Kate Winslet won the supporting actress category for her portrayal in “Steve Jobs” of the late Apple co-founder’s colleague Joanna Hoffman, while Mark Rylance was named best supporting actor for his Soviet spy role in “Bridge of Spies”.

“I’ve been working on this documentary for two and a half years, travelling across the world from South America to China to examine how the problem is going to affect people”.

“When I was only 14, I was told by a drama teacher that I might be okay as long as I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts”.

Collecting the award on her behalf, Room director Lenny Abrahamson said: “Brie, looking for a little bit of something light and nice to do after Room, is wrestling a large gorilla in Australia”.

George Miller’s dystopian thrill journey “Mad Max: Fury Road” took 4 prizes: modifying, manufacturing design, costume design, and hair and make-up.

Alejandro G Inarritu, who won best director for the film, described the win as “overwhelming”, BBC reported.

Wilderness drama The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio has dominated this year’s Baftas.

Boyega won the Rising Star award – decided by public vote – and dedicated it to “all the young dreamers who are hard-working, who are determined and who quite frankly are unbelievable”. The BAFTA for Film Not in the English Language was presented to Argentinian film Wild Tales. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the “Star Wars” sequel will follow J.J. Abrams’ box-office smash “The Force Awakens”.

Speaking after the ceremony, DiCaprio said he was “shocked and amazed, honoured”, adding: “All of this was not expected tonight”. Sunday night was a repeat for both flicks as Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer won Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTA ceremony and Adam McKay and Charles Randolph won Best Adapted Screenplay.

Film-maker Asif Kapadia said of Amy after it won best documentary: ‘In the end it was all about Amy. “WHITE actress are”, Baron Cohen said, before host Stephen Fry interrupted him.
