The Revenant leads Oscar nominations with 12 nods
In the Best Animated Short Film category, We Can’t Live Without Cosmos scored a nomination: the film follows two cosmonauts in training in an effort to achieve their dreams of reaching the stars.

Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”) is the clear, and clearly sentimental, nominee for best supporting actor, at 2-1.
The Nominations for Best Picture are: The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight. But “Mad Max: Fury Road”, landing 10 nominations, including one for Best Picture, certainly was.
Best actress contenders are Cate Blanchett, “Carol”; Brie Larson, “Room”; Charlotte Rampling, “45 Years”; Saoirse Ronan, “Brooklyn” and Jennifer Lawrence, “Joy”.
Although he is up against some stiff competition from Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender and Eddie Redmayne, fans and online polls suggest that this trophy might finally be his to keep. – Speaking of composers, Thomas Newman’s original score for “Bridge of Spies” is his 13th nomination.
Star Wars, which is line to be one of the highest-grossing films ever, failed to make the shortlist.
Nominees for best documentary: “Amy”, “Cartel Land”, “The Look of Silence”, “What Happened Miss Simone?” and “Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom“.
