Last night, Hollywood gathered around together, got drunk, and gave each other Golden Globes Awards. It’s said to have a good chance to get best picture, and for DiCaprio to win best actor as well. It does not hurt that the film also won for best picture and best director at the Globes, ensuring the survival epic also will be a major player in the Oscars race.

Leonardo DiCaprio may have scooped the Best Actor gong for his role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, but he was also the victor on social – clocking up the most mentions on Twitter with over 13,000 posts directed towards him. In the Best Foreign Movie category, Hungarian Holocaust drama Son of Saul was the victor.

British nominees Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), Dame Helen Mirren (Trumbo), Dame Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van) and Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation), however, missed out on awards.

The Golden Globes also allow for the opportunity to shine the light on two actors’ performances. It won the prize for Best Dramatic Film.

This advantage has fared much better for the leading ladies – in the past 25 years, 88% of the GG winners for Best Actress later went on to win Oscars that same year!

The prestigious Golden Globes award show just happened last January 11, 2016 and the star studded event was full of colorful happenings.

Other top winners included Sylvester Stallone, who received a standing ovation as best supporting actor for the film “Creed”.

Ricky Gervais ( and his barbs ) returned as host after Amy Poehler and Tina Fey co-hosted for three consecutive years.

The victor of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture was Kate Winslet in Steve Jobs.

Fox television’s popular hip-hop industry saga “Empire” produced a best actress win for a jubilant Taraji P. Henson, who plays family matriarch Cookie Lyon.

According to Deadline, Gervais has been asked to return for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards in 2017.

Jennifer Lawrence was awarded Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy for her movie, Joy.
