‘The Revenant’ Sweeps The Golden Globes, As Jennifer Lawrence And Lady Gaga
Ricky Gervais returned to host the awards show for the fourth time. The Martian, the tale of an astronaut stranded alone on Mars, won two top prizes – best comedy film and best actor in a comedy for actor Matt Damon.

There were some surprises though, such as the resounding success of The Revenant, which won best film, best director and best actor which went to Leonardo DicCaprio. The Revenant, Steve Jobs and The Big Short, had four nominations each.
Best actress victor Jennifer Lawrence channels modern day Hollywood glamour in her sleek red Dior Haute Couture column with insane side slits. Critics darlings “Carol” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” were surprisingly shut out as well. Oscar nominations will be announced Thursday, with the show following on February 28. Thanking director and frequent collaborator David O. Russell, Lawrence said: ‘Where are you David?’ Every time I’m up here it is because of you’.
Despite some diversity in the nominee ranks, the film acting awards were still won exclusively by Caucasians, rousing some worry that the Oscars may follow suit despite increased scrutiny after last year’s #OscarsSoWhite criticisms.
However, the most surprising victor of the night was Mozart in the Jungle, which not only took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy, Gael García Bernal also took home the Best Actor in a Comedy trophy, beating out the likes of Jeffrey Tambor, Aziz Ansari, and thespian Patrick Stewart. “I was like blank for a second”, she said of the moment when they called her name. “She’s amusing and hilarious and will win many things”. Brie Larson won the Globe for best actress for Room. As was probably expected in the year where riots will break out if he does not win an Oscar, he received a standing ovation for “The Revenant”. This was his first win in an acting category at the show.
“I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had”, said Stallone, whose only other Golden Globes nod was also for portraying the Italian Stallion in “Rocky”.
Hungarian “Son of Saul” won the best picture in foreign language, overcoming competition from the Chilean “El Club”.

The Gervais-led Globes evidenced little of the seriousness that marks most award shows, or the teary-eyed acceptance speeches. Jonah Hill’s cuddly bear head provided comedy that landed flat. Sly hasn’t been nominated for a Globe since 1977.
