‘The Revenant’ triumphs at Golden Globes

The 73rd annual Golden Globes had a few curveballs up its sleeves, and the biggest ones werent even from acerbic host Ricky Gervais, who kept the show alive with his biting quips and takedowns of the business that the awards were celebrating.

Pioneer-era tale “The Revenant” won three awards including best drama film, beating out front-runners “Carol”, a lesbian romance, and investigative journalism drama “Spotlight”. “It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people out there to exploit them”. Damon said it has been 18 years since he first won a Golden Globes for Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Sylvester Stallone really might win an Oscar next month, as 13 out of the last 15 men to win the Globe have won best supporting actor (including the last eight). Let us know below, or by hitting us up on Facebook and Twitter!

The film was awarded best motion picture award in the drama category.

The most tweets overall went to Gaga, with Lawrence coming in second and DiCaprio third.

Adam McKays star-studded financial collapse comedy “The Big Short” also walked away empty handed, despite some rising awards momentum lately with recent Producers Guild and Writers Guild nominations.

Despite Gervais’ insistence that the awards carry absolutely no significance in the grand scheme of Hollywood, as he has three of his own, the show featured several exciting wins and uncomfortable encounters.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu won as Best Director for “The Revenant”, a film about a fur trapper who is keen to get justice in a shoot that resulted to budget overruns and crew defections.

Rising star Brie Larson, 26, beat veteran Cate Blanchett to win best drama actress for her role as a young woman held captive for years with a young son in “Room”, while Lawrence won best comedy actress for “Joy”, about the Miracle Mop inventor. Gervais said he had been trying to think about something nice to say about Gibson, who had a famous booze-filled rant after a DUI bust a decade ago.

I mean, it’s not often you find hosts who don’t suck up to celebrities at award shows, who are brutally honest and hilarious at the same time! There’s also talk that Vikander being nominated for best supporting actress is “category fraud”, being that she essentially plays an equal role to the film’s lead character.
