The Ring sequel Rings pushed back for the third time
Paramount Pictures has pushed back the projected release dates for Rings, the latest sequel to horror staple The Ring, and the latest installment in the Friday the 13th franchise. Now that Rings is no longer opening in October, this will give Universal’s Ouija: Origin of Evil, opening October 21, less competition during the Halloween season. RINGS is now set to reach theatres on February 3, 2017. That effectively mirrors the Rings move, making Friday the 13th the likely “big” horror movie for the first part of October, while buying the studio additional time for post-production on what’s an important staple of their genre lineup. The movie was originally set to hit theaters on November 13, 2015, before moving to April 1 of this year, and then to October 28.

This makes total sense, since the producers at Platinum Dunes only recently hired Breck Eisner to direct the film, working from a screenplay by PRISONERS’ Aaron Guzikowski.
Normally, you watch The Ring tape and then have to die seven days later. The film has already been moved around the calendar before, but Paramount has now revealed that Rings won’t be with us until February 3rd, 2017.

In Rings, a young woman becomes anxious about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. The film co-stars Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio.
