The Second Season of Serial May Tackle This Extremely Controversial Case

Bergdahl’s disappearance from an army base in Afghanistan in 2009 and his subsequent five-year imprisonment by the Taliban.

It’s expected the new season of cult podcast Serial will investigate the story of United States soldier Bowe Bergdahl, who spent five years as a Taliban hostage. Heavy stuff, right? The whole situation was made even more complicated (and, as we mentioned, mysterious) by the fact that he walked off his base (and into danger) on his own volition, and was charged with desertion and endangering the soldiers who searched for him.

In Farwell’s new report for Maxim, he claims that Serial host Koenig and at least one of the show’s producers attended a preliminary hearing for Bergdahl’s case in San Antonio, Texas last week. Bergdahl’s release as part of a prisoner exchange became clouded with controversy as the soldier deserted his unit after becoming disillusioned with America’s presence in Afghanistan.

Everybody, stay calm. Serial, the podcast that swept the nation past year , may have landed on a subject for one of its two upcoming seasons: the controversial case of Sgt.

Zero Dark Thirty writer Mark Boal was also said to have been at the hearing with Koenig.

While details have yet to be confirmed, Serial’s production manager Emily Condon told Maxim: “We’d very much appreciate if fellow journalists would give us some room and not feel the need to attempt to dig into and try to figure out what you think we might be doing, especially since we’re actively reporting stories, and having a bunch of wild speculation out there makes our job reporting harder”.

New buzz for Serial season 2 is increasing, with a famous global case being the possible next concept.

The first series of Serial generated such a response that it led to an appeal being granted to convicted killer Adnan Syed, who had been jailed for the 1999 murder of teenage athlete Hae Min Lee.

“Doesn’t feel very menschy [Yiddish slang for “upstanding”]”. Koenig’s exhaustive investigation raised significant questions about the prosecution against Syed, who’s serving a life sentence.

Conflicting reports of his actions have emerged, which could make the case fertile ground for Serial’s methodical style of finding multiple angles and interviewing as many people as possible.
