Fans will get to see Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, a one-off episode set in London in 1895, on New Year’s Day. The special extended episode, taking place in Victorian London, will air simultaneously in the U.S. and United Kingdom – a first for the series.

After years of patiently waiting, BBC’s hit series Sherlock Holmes finally has a return date!
Moffat previously confirmed that the upcoming special will stand alone from the highly anticipated fourth season.
Sherlock won seven Emmy Awards in 2014 for the episode “His Last Vow”, including acting trophies for both Cumberbatch and Freeman.
Benedict Cumberbatch, 39, and Martin Freeman, 44, return to their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson respectively in a whole new adventure titled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.
The specials official air date was revealed to be January 1st 2016 during the panel, writer Mark Gatiss also said “There’s something in the special, which was a sheer delight from beginning to end”.
The Victorian era Sherlock special that’s been shrouded in mystery these past many months has dropped a few clues today, and an updated trailer (above).
Show runner Steven Moffat recently made this sudden announcement along with announcing that the filming of Season 4 will start April 2016 onwards, according to Comic Book. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly hide – it’s Victorian.

“The special is its own thing”, Moffat told EW back in March. It will also feature Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan and Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade.
