Charmian Carr was a college student when she chanced into getting an audition for the part of Liesl von Trapp. After acting in the Sound of Music, she married and then made a decision to leave the movie business and raise her two children, Jennifer & Emily.
She started hosting “Sound of Music” singalongs in 2000, and attended nearly all of the shows at the Hollywood Bowl until 2012.
Carr is survived by her siblings Sharon, Darleen, Michael and Brian; her children; her niece Julie and her four grandchildren, Emma, Derek, William and Tucker.
“We’re second family”, said Kym Karath, who played the youngest von Trapp, Gretl, in an AP interview past year to commemorate the film’s 50th anniversary.
