The ‘Stranger Things’ actress who plays Barb is joining the ‘Riverdale’ gang

She was originally conceived in the 1960s as a plain, ungainly girl who’s obsessed with Jughead. In Riverdale, however, Ethel will be entangled “with someone very different”. Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Robin Givens (Boomerang, God’s Not Dead 2) has also joined the Riverdale cast as Mayor Sierra McCoy.

The Riverdale characters differ from the source material in some big ways, so we’ll have to wait and see what they do with Ethel Muggs. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice aren’t the only thing holding her back.

She tweeted about the news Tuesday morning. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason?

The show has been described as a “subversive take” on the comics, with Archie, Betty, Veronica and the rest of the gang exploring “the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade”. Ethel will find herself drawn into a friendship with Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) after they team up in a quest for revenge on Reggie Mantle, Archie’s rival.

The Greg Berlanti-produced Riverdale, which offers a noirish take on the classic high-school comics, airs this summer on the CW in the US.
