The Trauma of Digital Warfare, on Hacking Mr. Robot: Week 2

“In real life Rami really is like my brother”, Chaikin revealed.

Esmail wanted season 2 to be “authentic”. He invited her earlier in the day, and judging by the uplifting mantra she chanted before showing up, Angela thought it was going to be a one-on-one thing. If not, you can always watch via your provider the next day on-demand. “There are vacuums left after this”. The whole thing. Especially having it capped off with the “did I just say that out loud” narrative. Tyrell also referred to “the night when they became gods”. “It’s also very lovely”.

This week on Mr. Robot, Elliot’s latest “escape” attempt was one he could barely stomach, a second death rattled fsociety’s ranks, Angela was presented with quite an opportunity and Agent DiPerro made an effing discovery. The cast admitted that was a challenge, to keep track of how their characters have evolved throughout the season.

The reactions from Saul and Jim when Philip says “We’re going to have one more drink” are so telling, and so unbelievable. “It was really hard”. Eventually, Price ends up agreeing to the interview, but not before making sure he had Angela wrapped around his finger. This character could easily become the unfortunate trope of the “hard-working career woman who just needs to find love”, but in focusing on the banalities of her depression (not to mention refusing to shy away from her sexuality), Mr. Robot is set up to do something much more interesting. Mainly, they discussed the fact that while fsociety might have technically won in the season 1 finale, no one is really happy. “I think Prada shoes really changed her life”, Doubleday joked. So he said that shouldn’t trust Darlene or her insane brother because they might try pinning the financial crisis on them and they wouldn’t be able to defend themselves if they were both death. When she sees that they’re not alone, Portia Doubleday absolutely nails the mixture of horror, panic, and resignation.

The arcade was acquired through hacker Jerome Romero, one of the original members of fsociety and convicted felon.

Did you know Elliot is insane?

Mostly she just lays around in existential dread until the early hours of the morning, opens up her Anxiety Management app on her phone and dirty talks online with strangers because she presumably can not talk to people face-to-face. According to Grace, Dominique uses her work to cover up herself and who she is. Only Darlene dealt with the Dark Army through her ex-boyfriend, and only Elliot met the group’s leader, Whiterose. She heads off to a crime scene, which just so happens to be that of F Society member Romero. Yes eating with these two fellas makes it more hard but she’ll find it gets easier over time. Asking the pressing question of Summer 2016, a fan wondered who among the cast plays Pokémon Go. What a tremendous, tremendous performance that just goes to highlight the awesomeness of Mr. Robot.

Law Enforcement will play a big part in the rest of the season. I feel as if she feels so out of control that she’s in denial. Maybe that call from Tyrell was an illusion too. “She better choose Luke”, Slater warned (referring to the recent cliffhanger in the last episode with Jojo). Joining them for the meal are two mid-level executives who Price later reveals had something to do with the toxic chemical dump that killed Angela’s mother and Elliot’s father. Upon visiting Romero’s mother, Dom discovers the location of fSociety quarters by complete accident, and we can only speculate as to what’s going to happen now. One [Esmail] breaks the storyline for season he calls each of us…

Added Malek: “I had diarrhea”. The question earned a few groans from execs in the crowd, but the stars gave USA Network props for running the show. Angela could be a crucial character, and aside from painting inside the lines a little too closely the show hasn’t fucked it up yet. “There’s nothing we won’t broach”. Elliot declares that believers are but addicts of hope that get their drugs from God in a speech reminiscent of Rust Cohle’s thoughts about religion from 2014’s True Detective. “We’re controlled by money, slave to debt”.
