The Trend Toward Legalizing Recreational Marijuana
California’s ballot initiatives – the most since 2000 – also reflect the choices before voters in a state that tends to be a bellwether for broader cultural issues that ultimately become law, political experts say.

But California, famously liberal and trend-setting, is in an usual position.
In Oklahoma, Question 776 would amend the state’s constitution to say, among other things, that any form of execution will be allowed except if prohibited by the U.S. Constitution.
Outweighing arguments that California needs more time to formulate a better plan for legalization, though, are the plentiful benefits that Prop 64 will bring. Prop 64 is really a real estate story, and that has big implications for California.
Pot startups flying high with California poised to legalize marijuana.
Recreational marijuana is now legal in Colorado, Alaska, Washington, Oregon and the District of Columbia. They would join four states that already allow using the drug for recreational purposes: Washington, Colorado, Alaska and Oregon.
Four states – Florida, Missouri, Arkansas and North Dakota – are voting on whether to legalize medical marijuana, which is taxed, but not almost so much as recreational pot. Medical marijuana is already legal in California.
Before him, the top cannabis reformer in US government was former New Mexico Governor – and current Libertarian presidential candidate – Gary Johnson, who first called on the feds to legalize cannabis over 15 years ago.
With Proposition 205, 40 percent of the money from marijuana will be spent on K-12 education, 40 percent on full day kindergarten programs and 20 percent on state-run drug and alcohol treatment. For it’s part, the Marijuana Policy Project gives Trump a “C+” grade on marijuana legalization. “This is a broken system”, lamented a San Francisco Chronicle editorial over the ballot-happy state.
“There’s a ton of fears”, said Chrystal Ortiz, a second-generation marijuana farmer on the Humboldt County Sun Growers Guild.
And I’m not talking about medical marijuana.
The digital ad, titled “Rude Awakening”, depicts a marijuana legalization supporter waking up on the morning after Election Day and turning on the television.
Lawmakers face a December 9 deadline for passing another government funding bill. The Brookings Institute, a research group based in Washington, D.C., has been looking at polls to see how these ballot items affect voter turnout. It makes pot legal to have, but not to buy – at first.
The last time California voted on the issue in 2012 they opted by 52% to 48% to keep the death penalty.
In Nevada, a “yes” on Question 2 would make recreational use of 1 ounce or less legal or one-eighth of an ounce or less of concentrated marijuana legal for people age 21 and older.
Marijuana is the most widely used drug in the United States. However, there is a positive step made towards the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2016 hence boosting the size of the market for the cannabis industry. We’re gonna have states lining up to vote on it. They are wary of some of the measure’s big-pocketed donors, including Facebook and Napster co-founder Sean Parker, and worry that it could create factory farming of marijuana in the state. That restraint is completely discretionary, though, and could change depending on who is in power at the Justice Department. A Hillary Clinton Administration, on the other hand, is likely to continue Obama’s policy and let the states experiment on their own, which is how it should be.

If Proposition 62 passes on Tuesday, the state with the biggest death row in the USA could join the long list to abandon or suspend their death penalty.
