The UK’s biggest ever film is… Star Wars: The Force Awakens
J.J. Abrams says he was surprised as anyone that one of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ lead characters, Rey, went missing from a commemorative Monopoly game.

Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens withstood the strong nationwide debut of Fox’s The Revenant to remain the top film at the North American box office while the horror feature The Forest opened in fourth.
Director J.J. Abrams has confirmed in a new interview that there will not be an extended cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on Blu-ray and DVD, although it’s more likely that the home video release of the film will include deleted scenes.
GLOBAL movie sensation Star Wars: The Force Awakens has smashed the United States box office record to become the all-time leader in cinematic history in that country with a force of $764, 4 million as of Wednesday last week.
The Force Awakens has already been named the biggest movie ever in the USA and Canada, after passing the $760.5 million (£507 million) Avatar hauled in on Wednesday (06Jan16).
Disney said the China numbers put the film’s global total over $1.73 billion, behind only Avatar ($2.79 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion), both by filmmaker James Cameron.
The Revenant stars Tom Hardy alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as a frontiersman named Hugh Glass on a fur trading expedition in the 1800s trying to survive after being mauled by a bear.
Han Haoyue, a veteran film critic at Beijing Times, said the film’s box office in China has little chance of surpassing that of Furious 7. The film has grossed a domestic total of $41.38 million.
Aimed at younger females and Latino moviegoers, the PG-13 supernatural scary flick landed in fourth place at the domestic box office, behind the Paramount Pictures comedy “Daddy’s Home”. DiCaprio is up for Best Actor at Sunday night’s Golden Globes for his work in the film!
Quentin Tarantino suffered from the surprising strength of The Revenant as his Western The Hateful Eight dropped down to #6 in its second wide release weekend.
Also in its third week in theaters, it made US$15 million. “He had things that he came up with where he asked if it was possible if we could make some adjustments with what we were doing at the end, most of which we did – there were just a couple that didn’t feel right, so he made adjustments – but it was just collaboration”.
Weekend sales for the top 10 films rose 34 percent to $140.6 million from a year earlier, Rentrak said.
Topping the inflation-adjusted list is Gone With the Wind, at more than $2.4 billion.
