The UnREAL Finale: A Beautifully Depicted World of ‘Manipulating Sluts’
She added that she gave Stroma a call himself, asking him to leave the option open for season 2 since they are discussing a possibility of him appearing again. “It’s just like addictive, irresistible fantasy”, Shapiro says in the interview. He wasn’t smart enough to see through Quinn’s manipulation, and he lost the show in the process. She was pissed. Adam returned to set, and Quinn was pleased. Because of Quinn’s kibosh, Rachel has to watch her crush propose to someone else while she is standing helpless a few feet away.

In retaliation for accumulated wrongs, Rachel and Quinn raze what was supposed to be Adam and Anna’s live wedding, sabotaging the creator of the series and Adam’s chance of a spin-off series. It was speculated that Adam might pursue producer Rachel, delving more into their relationship in the upcoming season. But PSYCH. Rachel just got Adam to confess he didn’t love Anna and the marriage was all for show for Anna to hear. One can only hope season two is about those things, too. “It’s you that’s ugly”, when you know he’s becoming no better than her, morally. For a while, I was stuck on being even darker [laughs]. “There is nearly no sanity left in the scene”. He doesn’t think of Adam as a multidimensional person. She tells her, “You should be kneeling down thanking whatever that you didn’t end up Everlasting’s ultimate tabloid idiot”.
“We’ve talked about Hawaii, which would be really fun”, Shapiro revealed. And in regards to people focusing on the Everlasting parts, that’s long gone. What happens when they have those qualities exploited?
“UnREAL” is an exaggerated but largely (and sadly) believable takedown of the reality show genre, where producers collude with ambitious contestants and don’t hesitate to “turn out” the psychologically fragile women who thrust themselves onto this deliberately unforgiving stage.
Is there no lengths Rachel won’t go to in order to ensure she gets good TV for Quinn (Constance Zimmer)?
When they meet up, Adam surprises Rachel by saying that he can’t run away with her and that he has to fulfill his obligations to the show because he wants to grow up and be responsible. I feel like the fact that there’s a BuzzFeed quiz about whether you’re more Quinn or you’re more Rachel was my happiest moment, so I just love that people love them.
Is this really what it’s like to work in reality TV? But considering the way shows like The Bachelor have coped with the deaths of people in their “family”, the speed at which Everlasting’s producers moved on because “the show must go on” was disturbingly true to life. Appleby said, however, that she based her character on the accounts of actual producers she spoke to. Shiri Appleby, formerly best known to me as the good girl in teen movies like Swimfan, who knew?
“I love you. You know that, right?” Most importantly, we understand her motives, even if we don’t agree with them.
Shapiro pointed out one scene earlier in the season that illustrates Quinn and Rachel’s depravity.
It’s Rachel and Quinn, ultimately, who are the couple you root for-not Rachel and Adam, or Rachel and Jeremy, or Quinn and Chet. Rachel is compelling largely for her unique talent at her unethical profession; UnREAL bucks the very Hollywood stereotype it lampoons by presenting us with a leading lady who is deeply flawed, but deeply likeable nonetheless.
Last summer, Fox aired a reality show titled I Wanna Marry “Harry.” The short-lived dating competition – only four episodes were broadcast on TV – pitted women against each other to win the heart of an eligible bachelor who bore a slight resemblance to Prince Harry but certainly wasn’t Prince Harry. We talked about it as the ‘Walter White moment, ‘ when he’s burning down the warehouse [in Breaking Bad]. “It is when Rachel is speaking with Mary, who is the single mom, and she sets her up to go basically be destroyed on camera. That was kind of the most important moment in the pilot in terms of setting up her character”.
But, their lovely friendship hits a rough patch when Adam tells Rachel that Quinn told him about Rachel’s mental illness and hospitalization.
Quinn asks Rachel if she’s talked to Anna and Rachel says that she has. Rachel says that Adam just found out. I love that people are fighting about Jeremy versus Adam. We’re not committed to that yet, but that’s something we definitely think is something very crucial to us.
UnREAL’s incredible first season came to a close on August. 3 and went out with a bang.

The two of them ponder the next season (yeah, this is where the meta kicks in), and I’m left yearning for season 2. Quinn shakes her head at herself when she admits, “I started to believe what we sell here”. Unsurprisingly, neither did I Wanna Marry “Harry” – the victor said that she and Not-Prince-Harry have “spoken regularly”, which doesn’t exactly scream everlasting romance. Yep, these two are the real love story here – love triangles be damned.
