E! News reported that the hosts, Joy Behar, Raven Symone, Michelle Collins and Paula Faris were seen on “The View” show on ABC that aired last Monday talking about the current pageant, Miss America, and particularly, Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson’s monologue on the pageant’s talent portion.

Joy Behar didn’t get it, as she made clear during a generally mean-spirited discussion with Michelle Collins about Johnson’s monologue being “weird”.

Joy Behar then inquired as to why Johnson had a “doctor’s stethoscope on”, a remark that drew ire and consternation on Twitter. “She came out in a nurse’s uniform and basically read her emails out loud and shockingly did not win.” she continued,

“I swear to God it was hilarious.”

The View trivialized the profession of nursing, referring to the nurses scrubs as a costume”. And asked why she wore a stethoscope. “RNs use many tools to facilitate this role, including the constant use of a stethoscope”.

“The hosts of The View wish they collectively had enough brains to be a nurse”, another person on Facebook commented. I have helped to deliver babies, and I have held the hands of the elderly as they left this world. “Yes, it’s not a conventional talent, but it’s a skill and an art requiring a noble, unique mind”. My favorite response? Nurse Erin Pierce tweeted, “If I had a dollar for every time a doctor borrowed MY stethoscope”, proving a major point that Behar’s comments were not only inaccurate, but ignorant and disrespectful to the work that nurses do.

“There are many other talents than singing or dancing”.

“The exchange sparked a backlash on social media, which led to the creation of the hashtag “#NursesUnite”.

EXCUSE Maine, said outraged nurses everywhere. “Ignorant minds will continue to be ignorant minds”.
