“The Voice” Recap: The Knockout Rounds End
The knockout rounds on The Voice concluded Monday night. Here, judges Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams picked two of their team members to go up against each other. Mark comes into the rehearsals smiling ear to ear as he sees Rihanna beside his coach. Shelby chose to sing “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood, while James sang one of the coach’s, Blake Shelton, song “Sure Be Cool If You Did”. He added that Shelby took on a hard tune. James was not stolen by another coach. Mark sang “Stand By Me”, and Siahna took the stage with “Back To Black”.

Adam joked that Siahna unleashed a “monster beast”. Her power, her soulfulness, her spunky attitude all created an outrageously captivating performance. He said he was glad she could “come home”. Eventually, Pharrell made a decision to pick Mark over Siahnna. It was the end of the road for Siahna.
Jeffrey Austin and Kota Wade were up from Gwen’s team. Gwen chose Jeffery, who sang “Turning Tables” by Adele.
Meanwhile, Kota chooses “Barracuda” by Ann and Nancy Wilson, which is a unique selection but not the most ideal for the Knockout Rounds (very limited dynamics and range in comparison to Jeffrey’s song choice).
Pharrell applauded Kota for taking a huge risk, though he mentioned her performance was flat in a couple of spots.
“Good song choice!” he exclaimed immediately after the last note. Adam ultimately went with the “unicorn”, leaving Viktor to be stolen by Gwen. Emily sang “Cowboy Take Me Away” by the Dixie Chicks while Nicole performed Alicia Keys’ “A Woman’s Worth”.
“[The song] gave you the opportunity to go up to those falsetto notes and blow people away”, Blake tells Nadjah, before waxing on about Emily’s potential.
Blake’s final team: Emily Ann, Ivonne Acero, Barrett Baber, Morgan Frazier and Zach Seabaugh.
The next winners were called and they are Zach Seabaugh from Team Blake, and Evan McKeel from Team Pharrell. Evan, who performed Switchfoot’s “Dare You To Move”, won over Tim who sang “Torn”. He wanted to play the guitar, but Rihanna talked him out of it. Tim’s song selection was “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia.
Applauded, but not advanced, Tim heads home while Evan moves on to the live shows. Pharrell named Evan the victor. Tim is out of the competition.
Regina Love vs. Riley Biederer (Team Gwen): This match between Stefani’s two battle-round steals brought what may have been the evening’s sole surprise. Regina earned a standing ovation from the coaches after her performance of “Midnight Train to Georgia” by Gladys Knight and the Pips, while Riley also proved that she deserves a spot at the Live Playoffs with her performance of Beyonce’s “XO”. “I saw a little bit more diversity in what she did as a vocalist”, he says of Riley.
Gwen said both deserved to be on the show. Gwen will reportedly stick with Regina, while Pharrell will steal back Riley.
NBC will air a season-nine recap show Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Eastern time. The live playoffs begin next Monday night. Williams, whose team Biederer had previously been on, scooped her back up.

Blake said Nadjah’s song was “amazing and beautiful” but Emily Ann fit into a “bluegrass, mountain sound” that he thinks could be mainstream.
