“The Walking Dead” Premiere Draws 14.6M, Trails S5, S4 Openers

The Walking Dead Season 6 premiere, “First Time Again, ” brought in 14.6 million viewers, which is down 16 percent from the crowd that watched the Season 5 premiere, which had an audience of 17.3 million people.

Commenting on the performance data, Hernan Lopez, president and chief executive officer, FOX worldwide Channels said: “We are thrilled to see our No 1 series continue to perform so well on FOX and are convinced this season will continue to deliver explosive entertainment and ratings to match”. They’ve got KPIs to hit. Just when viewers thought that the zombies had by-passed the Safe-Zone and will go west, a loud horn starts blaring as Rick and other members are trying to divert the zombies away.

Zombies are really unappealing.

Unlike many zombie films, the horrors are rarely where the camera focusses. Having a fictional space where other people aren’t really human lets us work through hard ethical dilemmas – zombie fiction gives us that space.

In a separate interview, showrunner Dave Erickson also mentioned that the group finds out that they are not the only ones who has the idea to try their luck down the coastline of Southern Carolina, hinting that the threat posed by a few sea bound refugees who only want to protect themselves may even be more unsafe than the attack of zombies. Maybe there is hope for us after all. With various networks like HBO, Showtime and FX pushing boundaries, it’s “The Walking Dead” that reigns supreme as the biggest and coolest thing on TV.
