The Washington Post already knows it won’t be endorsing Donald Trump

“Don’t let anyone tell you that America is second rate, especially somebody running for president”, George H.W. Bush said at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston. Although Trump made an impromptu stab at explaining his position during his acceptance speech, his effort probably did little to calm those who wonder if he knows what he’s doing.

“Our convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation”, an ominous-sounding Trump said, standing against a backdrop of American flags.

“And contrary to what they tried to say at their convention, I don’t think he speaks for women”. “There’s just too much old and not enough grand in the way we express our party’s value to the next generation of voters”.

There are two parts of Trump’s platform that do not make any sense in terms of the millennial experience.

While Trump focused on fear in the country, Democrats will focus on making the country fear Trump.

The announcement of Clinton’s pick could come as early as Friday in Florida, a crucial general election battleground state. Staying away from any Hillary Clinton bashing, she spoke glowingly about Donald as a father, businessman, colleague – and the candidate Americans should vote for come November, she argued.

While Trump’s speech added a whiff of authoritarianism to his nationalist populism, he sought at the same time to soften his tough guy image just a bit-appealing, for instance, to Republicans to stop demonizing the LGBTQ community.

Tim Kaine is the leading contender, according to a pair of Democrats familiar with Clinton’s search.

That compared with 30.3 million who watched Mitt Romney four years ago and 38.9 million viewers for John McCain in 2008, the all-time ratings record for a national party convention. His speech was almost universally about attacks on folks with melanin.

Pence isn’t the only one who seems enamored. The Texas senator refused to endorse Trump in a Wednesday night speech, drawing boos from the convention crowd.

Trump is once again bringing up his own comments about Cruz’s father, Rafael, and wife, Heidi, which Cruz has cited in his decision to not endorse Trump.

Right after addressing the Heidi Cruz argument, Trump moved on to the allegations about Cruz’ father saying, “I don’t know his father, I met him once”. I know nothing about Lee Harvey Oswald. All I did was point out the fact that on the cover of the National Enquirer, there was a picture of him and insane Lee Harvey Oswald having breakfast. But, is Trump’s America a portrait that undecided voters recognise? “Couldn’t have said it better!”

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto says that he will not get involved in the American electoral process but he’s looking forward to a “frank, open dialogue” with whomever is elected.

Trump’s eldest daughter, heiress-apparent to her father’s real estate empire, said she had worked with him for more than a decade and seen him hire people from “all walks of life”. “My slogan remains America first”.

Trump also uses the phrase America first. The other show stoppers – Melania Trump’s speech and Ted Cruz’s non-endorsement – were just media circus. “Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo”. That is not who we are. He later said he did not accept Duke’s support.

Trump on Friday canceled an event in Akron and instead appeared with Pence at a hotel in Cleveland. He said he didn’t mind that some top Republicans skipped the convention.

“I ran as an outsider, I didn’t want anybody”.

Trump also got in to the disagreement which Cruz said prompted his non-endorsement.

“I’ve seen this good man up close – his utter lack of pretense, his respect for the people who work for him, and his devotion to his family”.
