British breakthrough act competitors Years and Years and singer-songwriter Bay are also in the running for British single with “King” and “Hold Back the River” respectively.

The official BRIT Awards nominations are based on votes cast by a Voting Academy, consisting of over 1,000 representatives from 15 sectors of the music industry including artists, managers, journalists, major and independent labels, publishers and retailers.

British girl group and 2011 X Factor winners Little Mix released their third studio album “Get Weird” previous year.

The lineup performing on thel night is confirmed as Adele, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, James Bay, The Weeknd, Jess Glynne and Little Mix, so they won’t have to be sending annoying video messages if they win awards.

All of the above-mentioned artists have also either won or been named as finalists in the critics’ choice category previously.

Meanwhile, Google Play Music – the official streaming and download partner for the BRITs 2016 – has revealed its predictions for who will be nominated for prizes at the ceremony.

Jade, Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jesy will join the already star-studded line-up including Adele and Justin Bieber on Wednesday 24th February.

This year’s awards ceremony will also feature a special tribute to David Bowie in the wake of his death earlier this week.

“A visionary and groundbreaking pioneer, he has inspired generations of musicians and will continue to shape music for many years to come”. “We wish to honor his extraordinary life and work at the forthcoming Brit Awards and pay a fitting tribute to one of our greatest icons”.

Ant & Dec will return as hosts. “Both of us are looking forward to what will be an incredible night, and we can’t wait to celebrate the achievements of British music once again”.
