The Who To Perform Rock Opera ‘Tommy’ Acoustic

Roger and Pete Townshend have always been supporters of the charity which supports and care for young people suffering from cancer all over the United Kingdom, and the band performed for the Trust’s first show at the Hall in 2000.

According to the band’s website, the set for these rescheduled shows will include a new presentation of Tommy which will emulate “the historic period around Live At Leeds and Woodstock” which “hasn’t been done by the band or seen by their audience since 1970”.

The Who will unveil a new presentation of Tommy at next year’s Teenage Cancer Trust shows.

The band said it was to coincide with two shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in honour of the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

Tommy was the band’s fourth album, largely composed by the group’s songwriter Pete Townshend, which told the story of a deaf, dumb, and blind boy.

A film in 1975 starred lead singer Roger Daltrey as the lead Tommy, along with Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, and Elton John as the Pinball Wizard.

As well as playing “Tommy”, the band will also play a selection of greatest hits.

Taking place March 30 and April 1, 2017, the two shows will mark the first time Daltrey and Townshend will present Tommy together since 1989.

Longstanding Teenage Cancer Trust Honorary Patron, Roger Daltrey CBE is a passionate champion of young people with cancer in the United Kingdom through his tireless work with Teenage Cancer Trust, and now in the USA through the new charity he has helped to establish, Teen Cancer America.

As a effect, The Who have chose to postpone their 2016 United Kingdom shows until 2017 to coincide with the Royal Albert Hall gigs. They shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have cancer. Any fans who can not make the new dates are entitled to a full refund from their point of purchase. For the March 30 and April 1 shows, tickets go on general public on-sale at 9 AM on September 23, 2016. Deadline for refunds is 5pm August 12.
