It has been an anxious wait for Xbox Preview Program members, but now we have the details on the first Xbox One January 2016 update notes for those of you who are signed up.
Microsoft this morning announced the third batch of Xbox 360 games that will work on Xbox One using the Backwards Compatibility feature.
Microsoft has revealed the full list of new Xbox 360 backward compatible titles rolling out now for Xbox One, which includes The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings. It’s a fantastic update for those of you who like to check game scores, but for those of you that don’t it’s just a reminder of how better your friends might be at a particular title. To download it for free, you’ll need to live in the UK, US, Canada, France or Germany.
In addtion, Hryb outlined that going forward Microsoft plans to change the way new titles are added to the backward compatibility list.
From now on backwards compatible titles will be released when they become available, so instead of providing a monthly launch date, the titles will be released as soon as they become available, that obviously requires approval from engineering and the game’s publisher.

“Fallout 3” was an early Xbox One backward compatibility highlight when Digital Foundry analyzed the game in November 2015. Combined sales from the Wii U and Xbox One – each selling 19,400,000 and 12,400,000 units respectively – don’t even touch that of the PS4. This allows developers to push this slightly older game to Xbox One, but they also took another step that’s really interesting. Likewise, Mass Effect sees problems during framerate dips during combat while Gears of War: Judgment is deemed “nearly unplayable due to severe performance drops”.
