‘The Wiz Live!’ Premieres On NBC Starring Queen Latifa

“The Wiz Live!” specifically boasts an exclamation point to emphasize that it’s an actual stage performance, not pre-taped, although certain orchestra tracks may be.

The star-studded African American cast includes Queen Latifah, “Glee’s” Amber Riley, singer Mary J. Blige, rapper/actor Common and “Orange is the New Black” actress Uzo Aduba.

The three-hour show starts at 8 p.m. “As you look through the designs for “The Wiz” there is a McQueen-esque ballgown, but really it’s just taking contemporary fashion and synthesize it into its own aural of design”. “The truth is, staging this musical has been a dream of ours since the ’90s, but the rights were tied up”. I love this show. The industry even has a bad word for the push to capture audiences through live, one-time-only productions: They aim to “eventize” TV offerings. Tiger Haynes originated the role on stage, while veteran comic (and TV game show habitue) Nipsey Russell (who died in 2005) was Tinman – AKA Fleetwood Coupe DeVille – in the movie, singing, “If you don’t have STP, Crisco will do just fine… That’s what “The Wiz” is about”. “I can say that everybody in the cast does an ideal job”. Speak no ill of Miss Ross, thank you! Inspired by the iconic 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz was created as an all-black musical debuting in 1974 on Broadway starring 17 year old Mills in the Judy Garland role as Dorothy. But she had been “too scared” to try out for Dorothy, instead scoring the part of Addaperle, Good Witch of the North. “I’ve never experienced any of it. Sometimes I think about my life, and Dorothy – she sees people she’s never seen before, she’s in a place (that) she’s dreamed of”.

Wait, I thought they were doing Grease next? . “Like I got ignorance coming on from my pores”.

The original Dorothy in the 1975 broadway production of The Wiz, Stephanie Mills, is playing Auntie Em.

NBC invites viewers to “Ease On Down the Road” with Dorothy, the Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion with its upcoming broadcast, “The Wiz Live!,”as previously reported by HNGN. I’m a fuzzy stovepipe!” Those characters are eccentric enough without without additional flourishes like humans in bird costumes and the Tin Man’s weirdo chorus. “And it doesn’t breathe!” It meant a lot to me and played a huge part in how I make records. In 1978, the film version of The Wiz starred Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, and the soundtrack was produced by Quincy Jones. Carrie Underwood experienced it as “The Sound of Music’s” Maria, while Allison Williams as Peter Pan brought on the haters. He will really break down the layers of what’s happening and just make it that much easier for you to become as opposed to acting.

“I’m ‘anticipitatious, ‘” says Grier. “But don’t worry, if you’re gonna pray”. “There are elements of “The Wiz” that I’ve used throughout my days”. Last December, NBC went with “Peter Pan”, starring Allison Williams (yes, the daughter of Brian) and Christopher Walken.
