Theo Walcott: Alexis Sanchez will flourish and score more goals for Arsenal

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott reckons Alexis Sanchez will continue to score on a regular basis following his hat-trick in the 5-2 win at Leicester.

The Chile worldwide had failed to score in eight appearances in all competitions until his hat-trick against Leicester and Walcott expects more goals from his team-mate over the next few weeks. And Wenger believes Sanchez is back up to speed following his close-season efforts at the Copa America, while his team are ready to challenge City, United and champions Chelsea for the title.

“Even at 1-0 we were creating lots of chances and I felt in a game like this the confidence was coming. He is really upset because he know he needs a goal as well but the ball he gave to Alexis was fantastic”, Wenger was quoted as saying on the official Arsenal website after the game.

Jamie Vardy insists he is happy to keep playing through the pain barrier to help Leicester’s cause in the Premier League.

“He [Alexis Sanchez] is back to his level”, Wenger said. Because his three goals against Leicester city meant that he also became a record breaker.

Following successive defeats for Manchester City, who lost 4-1 to Tottenham, Arsenal are now just three points off top spot and welcome leaders Manchester United to the Emirates on Sunday.

Vardy scored a late consolation and also hit the woodwork twice in the first half and has now scored six goals this season, one more than he did past year.

That loss leaves little margin for error against the Greek side so the pressure will be on Walcott if Wenger once again deploys him as Arsenal’s lone central striker.

“I could see in training a different player in the last week or two and he has shown that today”, Wenger said.

“I’ve been biding my time to get the opportunity to play up front, I’ve said that I wanted to play up front for a while now”, added Walcott.

“No, I feel I have just done my job with the team and for our fans”.

Sanchez’s first for the club came in a Champions League win over Besiktas; he then went on a run of 17 goals in 26 games.
