There’s a Metroid Prime: Blast Ball Demo on the eShop

Blast Ball originally debuted during Nintendo’s World Championships at E3 2015, though it wasn’t revealed at the time the game was brandished with the Metroid name.

Surprise! 3-vs-3 sports spin-off Metroid Prime: Blast Ball is available to download now on Nintendo 3DS for free, Nintendo has announced. Nintendo plans to deactivate the demo in “early September”. Contrasting the exploration-driven gameplay featured in past Metroid games, Federation Force instead focuses on action, allowing players to team up with friends to take out space pirates and other enemies who infest the game’s dozens of levels. There were many technical hurdles to face. That is why we chose to change things up and use this more rounded art style for the characters. Also, we compressed the surrounding terrain vertically, based on the characters’ proportions. That’s when we gave the go ahead to proceed in this direction.

Interestingly, while the game will support single-player play, producer Kensuke Tanabe urged viewers that the difficulty does not scale according to play count, so the game will be significantly harder when playing alone. The first team who blasts the ball into their opponent’s goal is declared the victor; it can also be played solo or via local play or download play.
