‘There’s nothing like New Jersey… so many wise guys’

“Neither is Chris”, Trump added, in what may have been a reference to Christie’s weight.

The billionaire businessman also had a little fun with the New Jersey governor.

And Trump – after he mentioned Nabisco’s move to Mexico – also made a lighthearted fat joke at his friend’s expense.

Pointing at Christie off-stage, Trump said, “You’re not eating Oreos anymore”.

“And Chris, you can’t even give him a table and a seat?”

Christie’s name has often been floated as a possible running mate for Trump – speculation that intensified earlier this month when he named Christie to head Trump’s White House transition team should he win in November.

Despite Trump trumpeting Christie’s accomplishments to his own constituents, the former candidate – whose term ends after the 2017 election – may get a better reception outside his home state. At the end of March, the New Jersey governor had about $250,000 in debt, according to financial reports.

“There’s nothing like New Jersey”, Trump said in an effort to talk over a handful of noisy attendees. After the rally, Trump attended a separate $25,000-per-ticket event to benefit the state’s Republican Party.

“Donald and I ran against each other for a little while”, Christie said. And you’re going to say, Donald, the people of New Jersey can not stand you winning so much for our country. “We’re going to make America great again, greater than ever before”, Trump said. “It’s for either of us”, he said, drawing loud laughs from the crowd.

“When will we get tough, smart and vigilant?” You ever see a bully get knocked out? Asked if she should reach out to Sanders to work things out, Clinton said: “I am absolutely committed to doing my part”.

He turned his focus to Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate for the nomination.

He also weighed in on the plane crash in the Mediterranean Sea, calling it a “terrible tragedy” and definitively saying it was an act of terror. The result, however, puts Clinton within the poll’s 3-point margin of error, a metric political professionals use to gauge the true competitiveness of any race.

“We know that there are people out there that want to hurt America and Americans”, Gov. Christie said. “And I’m saying to myself, what just happened about 12 hours ago?”

“He looked like Perry Mason that evening”, Trump said of Christie. Before Mr. Trump took the stage, the Republican governor lauded Mr. Trump, whom he has endorsed.
