Another firm right-wing figure, Liam Fox, became the Trade Minister.
David Davis has been appointed to the new cabinet position of secretary of state for exiting the European Union, to oversee Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.
Britain’s new prime minister will swiftly begin drawing up her new top team and is expected to increase the number of women in government.
Other EU leaders are already pressuring Britain to open formal talks – and warning that the United Kingdom can not have access to the single European market without accepting free movement of EU citizens, a sticking point for many pro-Brexit Britons.
Johnson said he was “very excited” to be part of the government. We’ll make Britain a country that doesn’t work for the privileged few but everyone of us. May said last month that if she became Prime Minister, she would not invoke Article 50 this year, despite pressure from European Union leaders to do so swiftly.
Mrs May will then have an audience with the Queen, when she accepts the monarch’s offer to form a new government and will, in keeping with tradition, “kiss hands” with the head of state.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel added his voice to those pleading for a speedy start to the Brexit procedure, following three weeks of financial and political turmoil triggered by Britain’s vote to leave Europe.
After Cameron resigned as prime minister following the Remain camp’s defeat in the European Union referendum, Johnson had been tipped as a favourite to replace him at 10 Downing Street.
“As I leave, I hope people will see a stronger country, a thriving economy, and more chances to get on in life”.
She stated that “David Cameron has led a one-nation government” and that it is in this spirit that she intends to lead.
“On all the phone calls, the Prime Minister emphasised her commitment to delivering the will of the British people to leave the European Union”, said the spokesperson.
In a brief letter to May, Tusk said he looked forward to a “fruitful working relationship” with the former home secretary.
However, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron predicted Mr Johnson would “spend more time apologising to nations he’s offended” than working as foreign secretary. She rewarded Johnson with the plum job of foreign secretary.
Ms Merkel congratulated Ms May on her appointment and wished her luck, the chancellor’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement.
On Thursday, July 14, the Bank of England will announce whether it will cut interest rates for the first time in more than seven years to curb the economic fall-out from Brexit.

Still, Hardt suggests: “Britain remaining in the European Union should also be an option for the new government – it would be better for Great Britain and the rest of the European Union”.
