Theresa May becomes Britain’s new PM

He said it had been the “greatest honour of my life” to serve as prime minister over the last six years and as Tory leader for nearly eleven years.

“From the introduction of same-sex marriage to taking people with low wages out of income tax all together, David Cameron has led a one-nation government”, she said. I know you’re working around the clock. “As we leave the European Union we will forge a bold new positive role for ourselves in the world”.

Theresa May made a pitch to Britain’s most underprivileged people in her first remarks since becoming the country’s prime minister. “Other than one meeting this afternoon with Her Majesty the Queen, the diary for the rest of my day is remarkably light”, Cameron said to roars of laughter in a packed House of Commons in London.

Minutes later, May arrived at the palace, accompanied by her husband Philip.

May campaigned for the leadership as a safe pair of hands, after spending six years as home secretary, one of the toughest jobs in British politics.

However, “Brexit doesn’t mean Brexit for Scotland because Scotland didn’t vote for Brexit”, she said.

The outcome of the UK vote to leave the EU “has created a new situation which the United Kingdom and the European Union will have to address soon”, Juncker said in a letter to May published on his Twitter account.

Cameron had campaigned hard for Britain to stay within the European Union, but Britons voted by 52 percent to leave on June 23, plunging the country into uncertainty.

“I don’t detect Theresa May being an impulsive person”, Travers said.

Known officially as the chief mouser at the prime minister’s residence at No. 10 Downing Street, Larry will not be joining outgoing chief David Cameron and his family when they move out Wednesday.

In his last words in front of Downing Street he said “We’ve not got every decision right…but our economy is immeasurably stronger”.

He left the chamber to applause from all sides of the House and a standing ovation from his Conservative colleagues.

Cameron, often praised for his statesman-like demeanour, cut a more relaxed figure as he laid into his political rival Jeremy Corbyn, whose own future is subject to a protracted and acrimonious battle within the opposition Labour Party.

He even poked fun at himself, reminding legislators of a barb he directed at then-Prime Minister Tony Blair more than a decade ago: “He was the future once”.

“I am personally delighted at your appointment”, said Cardinal Nichols.

Not to mention a Conservative Party whose infighting over Europe prompted Cameron to call a referendum in the first place – much to his spectacular downfall.
