Theresa May to Become Britain’s Next Prime Minister

Mr Cameron will tender his resignation to the Queen on Wednesday, leaving Mrs May, appoint her own ministerial team.

A removal man let slip what it takes to move Britain’s Prime Minister out of the home he has lived and worked in with wife Samantha for six years after the paperwork for the job was snapped by a photographer.

But Schulz warned Britain that the European single market “entails four freedoms (capital, goods, services, persons) and not three, or three and a half”. “But we also need a government that delivers serious social reform that makes ours a country that truly works for everyone”, she told a rally of supporters on Monday. And like Merkel, May has to deal with national fears over immigration and refugees-an issue she dealt with controversially as Home Secretary.

While May supported Britain staying in the bloc, she maintained a low profile during the referendum campaign and insists she will honour the popular vote, stressing on Monday: “Brexit means Brexit”.

Having led the campaign to remain in the union, Cameron announced his intention to resign the day that the results were announced.

It follows another day of dramatic developments in the political world, when Andrea Leadsom unexpectedly quit the two-way Conservative leadership contest, saying she did not have the support to build “a strong and stable government”. Assuming office on Wednesday, May will become the first female prime minister since Margaret Thatcher.

“As I leave today, I hope that people will see a stronger country, a thriving economy, and more chances to get on in life”.

Newspapers offered harsher judgments of a politician toppled by his decision to call a referendum on European Union membership – which he then lost.

In a speech flanked by dozens of Conservative MPs, Mrs May, the home secretary since 2010, praised Mr Cameron for his stewardship of the Tory party and the country. Cameron was unable to win meaningful compromises on this point during his tenure, and it is not clear if May will fare any better.

The drama surrounding the endorsement of a new prime minister overshadowed drama in the main opposition Labour group where Angela Eagle announced a challenge to party leader Jeremy Corbyn in a leadership battle. She backed same sex marriage, said in 2012 that the legal limit on abortion should be lowered from 24 to 20 weeks and, along with most Conservative MPs, voted against an outright ban on fox hunting.

The Premier pointed out that the process of naming Ms May as the next Prime Minister is with the Conservative Party, as well as Buckingham Palace, and it is understood that there will be no need for an election for that post. In her statement yesterday, she went on to say “There will be no attempts to remain inside the EU”.

As she fills the major roles in her government, Ms May will have to keep Brexit-supporting heavyweights onside if she is to heal the splits in the party caused by the referendum.

In countries like France and the USA, voters elect a president, a head of state who has an individual mandate for a fixed term, which separate from the legislative body.
