Theresa May to become United Kingdom PM today
Before the referendum, May had campaigned for Britain to remain in the European Union, albeit in a low-key fashion.

Cameron said immediately after Britain voted to “Brexit” the European Union that he would step down to make way for a new national leader.
Monday started as a busy working day for May, 60 this year, as she unveiled her leadership manifesto in Birmingham.
Theresa May emerges to speak to reporters after being confirmed as the leader of the Conservative Party and Britain’s next Prime Minister outside the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, central London, July 11, 2016.
Her sudden rise to the leadership has inevitably recalled Britain’s last female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, who left office in 1990, 26 years ago. Ms Leadsom was Ms May’s only rival in the leadership race. She is expected to appoint her Cabinet on Thursday.
Mrs Leadsom had apologised to Mrs May on Monday after suggesting in a weekend newspaper interview that being a mother made her a better candidate for the job.
Cameron is set to hand in his resignation to the Queen tomorrow.
In the interim period, the United Kingdom will not have a Prime Minister at all. “May will return to Downing Street as prime minister”.
She also shared her vision of uniting the country and forming a strong new positive vision for the future of UK.
Adam Holloway, MP for Gravesham is in support of May as leader, he said: “I think it would have been good to have a contest but that not being the case now, there is somebody who ticks all the boxes with a great deal of experience, she has been very clear”.
It is unknown whether Mr Corbyn will encourage his Labour MPs to join in any send-off for Mr Cameron.
If the NEC rules he needs to be nominated by MPs, it could spark a legal challenge.
Even so, May might be tempted to go to the polls to confirm her own mandate, and because the main opposition Labour Party is in the midst of a leadership struggle that puts it in a weak position.
Theresa May was planning her Cabinet top team as she prepared to take over as the UK’s prime minister from the departing David Cameron on Wednesday.
She reiterated her commitment to Brexit on Monday.
“We are going to give people more control over their lives. (…) From Germany alone we export 800,000 cars to Britain every year, but its not just us, every member state has the same goal (…) therefore we are going to lead the negotiations together, in order to keep the effects minimal for all of us”.
Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron resigned and is leaving office two months earlier than expected, chairing his last Cabinet meeting Tuesday.
Mr Cameron will then head to Buckingham Palace to see the Queen in his final act as Prime Minister, before Mrs May makes the same journey and triumphantly arrives in Downing Street.
May, 59, has been the Home Secretary since 2010.
