These three future-looking technologies are missing from Samsung’s Galaxy S7s

All the big mobile operators are selling the phones with most contracts costing around £40. Samsung, which unveiled a virtual-reality device for consumers last fall, will now make a 360-degree camera for everyday folks to capture and share VR images. Samsung once again launched two versions of its new premium phone: the 5.1-inch flat screen Galaxy S7 and the 5.5-inch curved screen Galaxy S7 edge in Barcelona, where the industry is gathered for the Mobile World Congress.

Carriers including Telstra, Vodafone and Optus will start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge from February 26.

The device’s new Always-On Display gives users a simplified, zero touch experience to check about a missed call or SMS. “It can spend up to 30 minutes submerged in up to a meter and a half of water”. While the predecessor had 16 megapixels camera and flash the new phones have 12 megapixel cameras. That’s the widest aperture we’ve seen on a smartphone yet. Wireless charging is also possible for both models – like the previous models. The hybrid sim card tray allows users to insert a microSD card for up to 200GB of additional storage and in some select countries, the tray can be used with dual sim cards. Samsung Pay round out the Galaxy S7.

Not for the S7, according to Samsung’s Justin Denison. The phone has stood up to every expectation, and while it did not feature the “pressure sensitive” display or any other fantasy based features, the phone did come out with some really, really strong specs.

On the camera front, both the smartphones have a 12MP dual pixel f/1.7 rear camera with smart OIS and a 5MP(F1.7) selfie shooter.

Both phones will operate under the Android 6.0 Marshallow system and will be available for 32GB and 64GB internal storage.

The biggest under-the-hood change for the S7 edge is the battery, which has been increased to 3,600 mAh from 2,600.

The smartphones have an enhanced Galaxy experience in VR apps and games.
