These Trailers Played Before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
The previous Thursday record holder was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the final film in the Harry Potter franchise, which made $43.5 million in July 2011 pre-shows, according to Rentrak.

So far, the Disney film has pulled in roughly $130 million worldwide since opening overseas on Wednesday.
Thousands of fans have flocked to be the first see the new Star Wars movie – The Force Awakens in Australia. While the recently released Star Wars: Battlefront failed to impress me on so many levels, there are plenty of unbelievable SW video games out there to help me keep my excitement in check.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has already surpassed $100 million in North America and $250 million globally, setting it up for a record-breaking weekend. The Force Awakens was the exception, though, as some theater chains played the movie 24 hours around the clock last night, and plan on doing so again tonight.
The film, which carries a production cost of at least $200 million, opened in 32 additional foreign markets Thursday will open in most other markets Friday. But Abrams’ film scored the biggest openings of all time in Belgium, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Box office analysts expect it to make around $200m (£134m) over its opening weekend, a total that could challenge the record Jurassic World set earlier this year.
Imax and 3-D screenings are helping to propel the record gross.
With Fox losing “Star Wars” to Disney, the studio somehow thought it would be a good idea to open another “Chipmunks” sequel opposite it. ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip’ returns the three annoying animated characters to the big screen opposite live-action Jason Lee.
Disney said 47 percent of Thursday’s domestic ticket sales came from higher-priced 3D tickets.
So Saturday is crucial since tickets will be available for The Force Awakens. Critics have hailed it as a fan-friendly return to form for the franchise; the American Film Institute listed it among its top 10 films of the year.
