The FX series also took home the Emmy for best writing for a limited series, movie or dramatic special (it was nominated for three separate episodes in that category).

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Julia Louis-Dreyfus of “Veep” received a record-breaking sixth Emmy Award as best comedy series actress Sunday, using her victory to take a dig at GOP contender Donald Trump in a ceremony loaded with election-year asides.
“Thank you, Ellen DeGeneres, thank you, Hillary Clinton”, she said, naming two of the famous people she’s caricatured on the show. The first was unbelievable again this season while the second found a suitable role for rewards. Veep won previous year and could probably do it again, reports Vulture.
Nominees: Kyle Chandler – “Bloodline”, Rami Malek – “Mr. Robot”, Bob Odenkirk – “Better Call Saul”, Matthew Rhys – “The Americans”, Liev Schreiber – “Ray Donovan” and Kevin Spacey – “House of Cards”.
Only a few nominees had arrived 90 minutes before show time but the red carpet was bustling with security checks and other pre-show activity. As for nostalgia, “Downton Abbey” has its last shot at best drama, after six spectacular years on PBS. A few years later, the “30 Rock” co-star was seriously injured in a auto crash. Plus, he’d be the first black male to win the category in 31 years. To add to the excitement, there is not one or two but four actors from the series that are making their debut at the Emmys – John Travolta, Courtney B. Vance, John Travolta, Sterling K. Brown and Cuba Gooding Jr.
The Emmy nominations of 2016 have a plethora of fantastic comedy series’ to choose from. Heck, it’s too bad Tom and Taylor Swift couldn’t make it work – we would have loved to see what she would have worn on the red carpet, as she stood by his side for photos.
The Year of O.J. Dinklage’s main competition for the trophy could be from fellow Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington, receiving an Emmy nomination for the first time.
Paulson also thanked Clark, who she brought to the Emmys, and apologized to her for having a two-dimensional view of the prosecutor before signing on to play her onscreen.
For FX, the Emmy glow extends beyond the O.J. series.
About 25% of this year’s Emmy nominations in the acting categories went to people of color.
HBO has an early lead after the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out last weekend, but FX is not far behind; HBO has won 16 so far compared with FX’s 12.
