Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter tells City News Service that Jason Davis died at a hospital Wednesday night.

It happened about 2 p.m. Monday on the patio of Groundwork Coffee Co., 671 Rose Ave. Arriving officers were directed to Davis, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

At least one of the officers then opened fire, police said. “Davis continued his advance on officers while still armed with the knife and an officer-involved shooting occurred”, police said.

Police released the selfie image in hopes of identifying the burglar, who was described as a black man, wearing a dark hat. The video showed a man lying on the ground, slowly waving his hands above his head before officers turned him over and handcuffed him. Responding officers confronted the suspect outside the coffee shop.

“”In addition to the LAPD”™s investigation, the shooting also will be reviewed by the L.A. County district attorney”™s office, the Police Commission and its independent inspector general.
