This futuristic razor cuts with a laser

Laser razors are hugely positive for the environment as well-as mentioned in the video, the inventors call out the massive downsides attributed to using physical blades: the U.S. itself discards about 2 billion razor blades annually. Or chin. Instead of interchangeable blades, this razor uses an ingeniously specific type of laser that only slices through hair and nothing else.

The genius of the Skarp Lazer Razor is that it uses the inventors’ discovery that the presence of a specific “chromophore” in all human hair, regardless of the owner’s race, gender or age, allows it to be cut when hit by a specific light wavelength. He spent the next decade investigating and made a breakthrough in 2009 with a wavelength that could cut any colour hair.

Skarp makes a good case for why we need to dispose of our old shaving ways. The campaign has raised more than $689,000, well over their $160,000 goal, with almost 4,500 backers and 20 days left to go.

Gustavsson and Binun have patented the project and are now being backed by Kickstarter.

It’s not like traditional laser hair removal, which heats up the whole hair and works best with dark hair on light skin.

The Skarp razor can be used on any part of your body, from your face to your legs, and is being marketed at both men and women.

Morgan Gustavsson, one of the creators of the Skarp razor, had the idea for a Laser razor in 2001. The laser used is a low power offering and won’t sear out your retinas according to the people behind the product. But more importantly, the laser doesn’t enter the skin, it only enters the hair.

For now Skarp is only waiting for capital to begin order, it has already got preliminary agreements with manufacturers. It will cost you $159 to get a Skarp with shipping estimated for March 2016.
