This Harry Potter Fan Theory Explains A Sad Hogwarts Quirk
It’s getting closer by the day, Harry Potter fans.

The author, who has been working on the upcoming theatre production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, has just guaranteed the play will make you blub.
In the books, JK Rowling notes that there are 1,000 students at Hogwarts, which – divided equally across the seven years of secondary education – equals about 143 students per year.
The above image shows Harry’s year of recently housed Gryiffindors in The Sorcerer’s Stone.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has previously gone on the record about how many students are supposed to be enrolled in Hogwarts, which sat at 1,000 students. Even if we aren’t all die-hard fans, the majority of twenty somethings harbour a soft spot for J.K. Rowlings phenomenally popular stories. A Tumblr user has come up with the most tragic fan theory to explain the inconsistency. Clearly this math just doesn’t add up. Which is nice, but just makes us cry all over again. Or is there a darker reason behind the small number of students during Harry Potter’s years in Hogwarts? “What if Harry’s year was the exception?” marauders4evr challenges. “What if there were less students in the Hogwarts Class of 1998 because the period when the other kids would have been conceived (1979-1981) was when Voldemort’s reign of power was at its peak?”, marauders4evr wrote. While it’s sad to think about, ti does bode well for the Voldemort-less future.

For those of us who can’t get our hands on enough Floo powder to get to London to see the play, a book version will be released in both digital and print format on July 31, birthday of both Harry and Rowling.
