This Little Girl Saved A Birthday Cupcake For Her Favourite Bin Man
Brooklyn, a resident of Bloomington, Ill., had one birthday wish: to meet her family’s garbage man. Brooklyn has looked up to Delvar since her family can remember, and they often refer to him as their “favorite awesome smiley garbage man”.

“My heart is full when I see the joy that our fantastic garbage man brings Brooklyn when he honks and waves at her with a BIG smile”, Brooklyn’s mom, Traci Andracke, shared in a post on the Bloomington City Hall Facebook page. Then Brooklyn’s mom said she wanted to stand in the driveway to wave at Delvar.
Brooklyn’s mom then explained that he makes every Thursday special for them.
After meeting her hero Brooklyn went to daycare, telling her mum she was “so happy”. Or as they’ve taken to calling him, “our favorite awesome smiley garbage man”.
Bloomington, Illinois’ 34-year-old garbage man Delvar Dopson, and 3-year-old Brooklyn Adracke, a Bloomington resident, have a special connection.
Andracke and Dopson have since become friends.
“He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week”. The driver would honk and wave right back with a big smile.
“He explained that he looks forward to seeing us every Thursday as well”, Brooklyn’s mom wrote. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake. Eventually, Brooklyn had to wave to Dopson from the street.
When Brooklyn woke up that morning, she and her mum wrapped up one of her birthday cupcakes and walked outside the house to wait for the binman to arrive.
And a few weeks ago, Brooklyn finally got to meet her hero.
The story, however, gets better.

Dopson, who has worked for the city for 10 years, returned the next week with a birthday gift. We all have to discover our gift and be effective. “I mentor children, and that is the passion in my heart”. “I think everybody can do that”.
